Another day in Udaipur.

I started the day on my hotel’s rooftop watching the sunrise over a breakfast of coffee and mango lassi, before some aimless chai filled wanderings stole the best part of two hours.  I spent the ‘heat of the day’ basking in sunbeams by the swimming pool I had discovered yesterday.  It was lovely and all very peaceful (with the exception of a small bit of tortoise induced hilarity!).

It was all fun & games until the tortoise decided to wee!

When the sun started to fall I took my chances and braved the roads on a motorbike for the final circuit of Udaipur’s lakes.  Along the way, much to my delight, I was held up by a couple of elephants.  They make thrilling road blocks, infinitely more exciting than tram works back home!

The nicest kind of roadblock!

In the evening I found a beautiful restaurant, decked out in tiny fairy lighs, over-looking the lake.  On arriving I was greeted by soft atmospheric music playing in the back ground & candles twinkling away on the tables.  Unfortunately as soon as I’d ordered these were replaced by disco lights and thumping American dance music from the 90s.  Thankfully a German hippie clocked my panic and amended the situation with an ipod full of Dylan and Sigur Ros.  In minutes he had become my new friend and we spent an enjoyable evening over chai and shisha.

About fiona

My name is Fiona and I'm 28 years old. On the 21st October 2009 my sister and I quit our jobs, left our little town in Scotland and set off for an eight month adventure that would take us through India, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. My Family had hoped the trip would rid me of the urge to travel and expected me to settle down on my return. I had other ideas. In my mind the trip had been a great learning experience, a practice run. In February 2012 I’ll be excitedly returning to India where I’ll spend my first month as a solo traveler. May our paths be destined to cross...
